Mourinho wants Blues owner Abramovich to see off other prospective suitors in the chase for the 25 year old German international, who is apparently available for €25m (£19m) and seems likely to leave his Westfalenstadion side after their shocking start to the Bundesliga season.

Man City and Real Madrid are also keen on the attacker but Mourinho hopes his west London side wins the race for the former Borussia Monchengladbach man.

Reus has proven a big success at Dortmund, betting 47 goals in 99 apperances, but with Jurgen Klopp’s side sat in the relegation zone it’s entirely plausible that he could leave this month.

Mourinho may see Reus as a superior option to Willian as part of his three man creative attack behind Diego Costa, with Oscar and Eden Hazard regulars in the other spots.
