David Moyes Would Welcome Steven Gerrard Signing For Real Sociedad

Moyes opens the door to a potential La Liga switch for Gerrard.

Former Manchester United and Everton manager David Moyes has opened the door for Steven Gerrard to move to La Liga outfit Real Sociedad, report the Mail, with Moyes suggesting that he would always be on the other end of the phone if the former England international fancied a stint playing in Spain.

Gerrard announced that he will be leaving Liverpool on a free transfer at the end of the season today and is widely tipped to move to Major League Soccer, where Los Angeles Galaxy and New York City FC are believed to be set to fight it out for the signing of the long-serving Liverpool captain.

With Gerrard having suggested that he would not be interested in a move to another Premier League side and playing against Liverpool, however, a move to Sociedad to link up with Moyes becomes less unrealistic – whilst he may also be well suited to the slower pace of La Liga in his more advanced years.

Moyes was coy on the potential of signing other Premier League players during the January window as he talked during the Basque club’s winter break, but he did indicate that he would be interested in signing Gerrard if the possibility ever became a realistic one:

“He has had a great career for his club and for England and he will be very difficult to replace. If he ever wanted to come to play in Spain he knows he can phone me.”
