Bernabeu boss Carlo Ancelotti is hard at work trying to tie down Sergio Ramos and Pepe to new contracts and this could apparently spell the end of Varane’s time at Real Madrid.

The 21 year old French international is rightly considered one of the hottest prospects in European football but has found it hard to retain a foothold in Ancelotti’s starting eleven and could as a result look to leave the Champions League holders.

Varane has started just four La Liga fixtures this term and Jose Mourinho, the man who brought the centre-back to Real Madrid, wants to sign the player as a potential long-term replacement for John Terry.

By all accounts Mourinho is unconvinced about Kurt Zouma, who was signed to take over from the veteran Blues legend, and could opt to loan him out and sign £40m rated Varane instead.
