There will be no England meeting this month, after complaints from several Premier League teams – most notably Chelsea – caused manager Roy Hodgson to cancel the planned get-together with his players.

Reports in the Guardian confirm that the meeting had been planned for the 29th January at St George’s Park in Burton, but has now been called off due to the club’s busy fixture schedules.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho had told reporters that he would not release Gary Cahill if the meeting was not moved, with his side due to play Manchester City two days later, and Liverpool in the League Cup two days earlier.

Spurs take on Sheffield United in the other semi-final the following night and though the FA’s impression is that most of the clubs were broadly supportive of Hodgson’s idea, finding a date that suited everyone eventually became so complicated the relevant people have reluctantly given up any hope of it happening.
