Bayern Munich have apparently knocked Manchester United back in the race to sign Thomas Muller after Louis Van Gaal’s men made a £45m offer for the World Cup winner, according to the Daily Express.

Louis van Gaal managed Muller during his own time in charge at Bayern, and is said to be keen on a reunion with the popular forward.

Fellow Premier League giants Liverpool and Arsenal are also said to be keen, but sources in Germany are claiming that United are the only ones to have made an offer, which is believed to be in the region of £45m.

Pep Guardiola has rejected the offer, and will do so with any more that come his way as he aims to keep hold of Muller, who is contracted at the Alianz Arena until 2019.

Muller has previously revealed his admiration for Van Gaal and of the Dutchman’s interest.

In May Muller said: “It’s no secret that Louis van Gaal and I have a relationship that goes a little beyond the normal relationship between coaches and players.”

And in September, he added: “I know there was interest, but Man Utd were interested in a lot of players this summer.

“It never really got anywhere because I had just renewed my contract [until 2019], and Bayern were clear that they saw my future here.”
