The 28 year old Colombian intends to see out the current campaign at his Primeira Liga side but will then push to move to the Premier League with a transfer to White Hart Lane seemingly one Martinez wants to secure.

Mauricio Pochettino could well do with strengthening his attack though the Argentine knows full well that a Champions League berth may be key to any chances of snapping up the powerful FC Porto man.

The likes of Roberto Soldado, Erik Lamela and Emmanuel Adebayor have all failed to impress this term and but for Harry Kane’s resurgence it’s likely Tottenham would be way off the top four pace.

Martinez has bagged 81 goals in 116 appearances since moving to Portugal and his powerful, forceful approach may well make him an ideal Premier League purchase.

As well as Arsenal it is believed Liverpool are also keen on Martinez.
