The 24 year old looks set for a Bundesliga return after 18 months at the west London club and it’s a move that will see the Volkswagen Arena side break their club transfer record with a £22m fee thought to have been agree by the two clubs.

Wolfsburg’s director of sport Klaus Allofs has publicly confirmed a deal is imminent, stating;

“No contract has yet been signed, I’m a bit old-fashioned in that regards, The fact is that all signatures are still missing. There are still a few obstacles to overcome and the ink isn’t dry yet.”

Schurrle had a decent, if unspectacular, first season at Stamford Bridge but has seen his place in Jose Mourinho’s side taken by Willian during the current campaign.

The former Bayer Leverkusen man has started just five Premier League fixtures this term and the likely arrival of Fiorentina’s Juan Cuadrado would presumably have been the death knell to any chances of a forging a meaningful career at Chelsea.
