Young forward could miss out of latest European adventure.

Liverpool star Raheem Sterling faces a race against time to be fit for Thursday’s Europa League encounter with Turkish giants Besiktas, according to the Daily Mail.

Sterling has been forced to sit out of the club’s previous two outings with a foot injury, but is now nearing a return to fitness and will feature either on Thursday or against Southampton this weekend.

Manager Brendan Rodgers may rest him for the weekend clash with the Saints, as a victory would see them move within one point of Ronald Koeman’s fourth placed men in the Premier League table.

The Reds are already missing key men Steven Gerrard and Lucas through injury, so Sterling’s return will be counted as a major boost.

Liverpool will also be without midfielder Lazar Markovic for the Besiktas game, as he was handed a four-match European ban this week for getting sent off against Basel in the Champions League group stages.
