The former Manchester United forward pulled out of the England squad following their win against Lithuania last Friday, after picking up a knee injury at Wembley and was replaced with just over ten minutes to go.

Welbeck, who scored the second goal in a 4-0 win, has been a regular for Arsene Wenger this season after switching to London from Manchester on deadline day in August.

His first goal for the Gunners came against Aston Villa in September and he went on to score a hat-trick against Galatasaray in the group stages of the Champions League, and while the goals have dried up since, he endeared himself to the Arsenal fans by netting the winner against United at Old Trafford to book a place in the FA Cup semi-finals.

If he fails to recover in time for the game at Saturday lunch-time then it could open the door for Theo Walcott, who has found first team starts limited since returning from injury.
