It was first thought that the Liverpool striker could miss up to a month with a hip injury, but the Express state that Anfield medical chiefs do not think the injury is anywhere near as bad as first feared and they are confident he will make the trip to London.

Rodgers, who has encouraged Sturridge to make himself available to play more frequently, is already without both Martin Skrtel and Steven Gerrard through suspension. On a brighter note, is it expected Brazilian defensive midfielder Lucas Leiva will be available – he has missed seven weeks of action but played for more than an hour in Steven Gerrard’s charity fundraising match at the weekend.

Having lost to Manchester United at Anfield in their last outing, Liverpool’s visit to Emirates Stadium will be a real test of their top four credentials.
