The result moves Atletico onto 65 points and to within touching distance of Real Madrid (67 points) and Barcelona (71 points). Barcelona welcome Almeria to the Nou Camp tomorrow night, while Real Madrid have to travel to Rayo Vallecano.
It leaves David Moyes’ Sociedad side in tenth with 37 points. They are now winless in two games having drawn 1-1 away at Malaga last weekend.
