Both Premier League sides may end up being disappointed however, as the 21-year-old also said that he is ‘convinced’ that he will stay with his current club. This will be bad news for the Red Devils and the Stamford Bridge outfit, with their hopes of signing him potentially ending here.

The youngster said: “I’m not worried about what the future holds. I am convinced that I will stay in Valencia because I am very happy here. I just think about spending the next season in Spain. Chelsea? I do not know anything and also my agent is not aware of any opportunity.”

The Express believes that there have been bids of £36 million from both teams, but these comments could end the race for his signature. United manager Louis van Gaal said earlier in the year that a creative midfielder was his transfer priority  (via The Guardian), and Gomes could have been perfect for the role. The 21-year-old has played 25 times in La Liga this season, scoring four goals and creating one other at the heart of Los Ches midfield.
