The Ivorian’s recent form has been the subject of much debate in recent weeks and he came in for some harsh criticism in the aftermath of City’s 4-2 derby defeat against United last weekend as his work-rate was called into question by many in the media in particular by Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville .

He has been linked with a summer move away from the Etihad Stadium with Serie A side Inter Milan a possible destination where he could link up with former manager Roberto Mancini.

But following the side’s comfortable 2-0 victory against West Ham United on Sunday afternoon Toure has hit back at his critics and insisted he plans to remain on the blue half of Manchester:

“Everybody has their opinion in football and they are entitled to that.” he told the club’s official website.

“It hurts a lot sometimes when your work-rate is questioned but I will work hard for the team and for the respect of the fans who have always been behind me and I will continue to show my commitment to the team and I love playing for City.”

“There have been a lot of things said and a lot of rumours about me, but everyone who knows me – the people who work for the club and the supporters – know that I will continue to find to the end for this football club.” he added.

A first-half own goal from James Collins was added to by Sergio Aguero’s 20th league goal of the season as City returned to winning ways following back-to-back defeats which has seen their hopes of retaining the league title evaporate in recent weeks.
