Manchester United rumours
The 24-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League this season, with recent reports from Sky Sports claiming that he is closing in on a move to Old Trafford.
However, the Metro now claims that Manchester City are also contenders to sign Gundogan in a possible swap deal with Dortmund involving out-of-favour striker Edin Dzeko.
The reigning Premier League champions are in need of new recruits in the defensive midfield department, and Gundogan is certainly a player who would fit the bill after his superb performances in the Bundesliga down the years.
Dzeko, meanwhile, is not needed at the Etihad Stadium and makes sense as a player who could move as a makeweight in the deal, having had a disappointing season in England this term.
