The Reds find themselves in serious danger of finishing outside the top seven in the Barclays Premier League come the end of the season after failing to take maximum points from games against the relegation threatened duo of West Brom and Hull City in the past week.

With four games remaining of a disappointing season, the Merseyside outfit’s chances of  Champions League qualification appear to be over meaning they are locked in a battle with Tottenham and Southampton in the race for two Europa League spots via the league route.

Only a point separates the three teams going into the weekend’s games and with the Reds still to visit Chelsea and Stoke this month, their participation in Europe next year is far from certain and one player with a keen eye on their fortunes is Milner, who has been tipped to sign for Brendan Rodgers side on a free transfer.

The versatile England international is set to leave the Etihad Stadium when his contract expires in the summer and reportedly favours staying in the North West area which would make Liverpool favourites for his signature provided they can offer European football next season.
