Manchester United have reportedly made initial contact with Atletico Madrid over the potential signing of talented young goalkeeper Jan Oblak this summer, according to Spanish source AS.

The Premier League giants are facing the possible exit of star player David de Gea this summer, with a quote from a club source in the Manchester Evening News suggesting they are losing the battle to keep the Spanish international at Old Trafford amid interest from Real Madrid in this summer’s transfer window.

AS now adds that if De Gea does leave, it could see United reinvest that money on a big offer for the impressive Oblak, who has really caught the eye in La Liga in recent times after arriving at the Vicente Calderon to fill the void left by Chelsea number one Thibaut Courtois, who is now a Stamford Bridge star after three successful seasons on loan in the Spanish capital.

Having already dealt with that big expectation, Oblak could now be the ideal player to replace De Gea at United, which would be a similarly big task given the 24-year-old’s eye-catching displays as one of the Red Devils’ best players last season.

According to AS, the 22-year-old Slovenian international has a release clause of around £32m, which may be tempting for Louis van Gaal, who is decribed as a big fan of the youngster, even if that seems a lot to pay for a goalkeeper.

Still, Atletico have supposedly insisted he will not leave for less than that, while AS adds that United will struggle to sign Hugo Lloris as an alternative this summer, as he is set to stay at Tottenham.
