Liverpool star set for Serie A switch as Brendan Rodgers looks to offload flops

Liverpool star Fabio Borini is set to move to Lazio after being left out of their pre-season tour, reports the Metro.

The 24-year-old has struggled at Anfield since arriving from the Italian side’s fierce rivals Roma in 2012. Last season he managed just one goal, as the team found it difficult to recover from the loss of Luis Suarez the summer before.

This transfer window they look set to lose another key player in Raheem Sterling to Manchester City [BBC], and so will need new players to step up in his place. It seems manager Brendan Rodgers isn’t going to give Borini another chance to do so.

The Italy international is not the only player the Northern Irishman is set to move on as well. Mario Balotelli and Jose Enrique were also left out of the squad taken to Thailand, Malaysia, and Australia.

Balotelli has been linked with a departure by the Metro, and perhaps could be used to bring Fiorentina ace Mario Gomez. Meanwhile, Enrique has made just 18 appearances over the last two campaigns, and has just one year left on his contract. However, there has been little talk of a transfer as of yet, and the Reds may have trouble offloading the player.

There won’t be a shortage of players at Anfield after this though, with six signings already being completed this summer. James Milner, Danny Ings, Joe Gomez, Adam Bogdan, Nathaniel Clyne, and Roberto Firmino have all joined the team as they look to improve on their disappointing sixth place finish in the Premier League last time round.
