Van Gaal to raid his old club for goalkeeper.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is expected to raid his old club AZ Alkmaar this summer for the signing of young Dutch goalkeeper Nick Olij, according to the Metro.

The talented 19-year-old is a highly regarded talent in the Eredivisie, though he has only recently started training with the AZ first-team and would surely not be heading to Old Trafford as first choice.

United face something of a goalkeeping crisis, however, with rumours today from the Daily Star that Real Madrid will try to sign David de Gea on a free next summer, while the Daily Mirror links unsettled shot-stopper Victor Valdes with a return to La Liga with Valencia.

Olij looks a bright talent for the future, and it is the Manchester Evening News that first pointed out that the club were expected to bring him in this summer, though it is a report from Squawka that identified the player’s name.

United have a history of signing top young talent, and Olij could follow in the footsteps of De Gea himself, who joined from Atletico Madrid back in 2011 when he was not a particularly experienced player or big name.

The Spanish international has since risen to prominence in English football, and is reportedly wanted back in Madrid this summer, though the Star’s latest report suggests failure to agree a fee could stand in the way of a move for now.
