Serie A giants Lazio begin talks with Liverpool over potential loan deal for defender Mamadou Sakho [Video]

Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho could be in line for a summer transfer away from the Merseyside outfit, according to reports in Italy [via talkSPORT].

The French international arrived in Merseyside in 2013 from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, but is yet to establish himself at the heart of the Reds defence thanks to a number of injuries which has interrupted his progression.

Last season the 25-year-old made just 16 league appearances and was ruled out of the semi-final clash against Aston Villa through injury and his return to the starting XI on the final day of the campaign was ruined with the humiliating 6-1 defeat by Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.

The Reds face the Potters on the opening day of the 2015-16 campaign next month, however, it would appear Sakho may not be in the squad as rumours in Italian-based media outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi  have claimed that Serie A giants Lazio have opened talks with the Merseyside outfit over a potential loan move.

It was only last month when Sakho committed his future to the club [via Goal] and he has looked solid during the club’s pre-season program as he popped up with a goal against the Thailand All-Stars earlier in the month.

However, if Liverpool are willing to sell him it will be best for him to leave as regular first-team football is a must with the European Championships on the horizon next summer.
