Man City hope £45m bid could land Arsenal transfer target

City step up chase for Gunners target.

Manchester City are ready to step up their interest in signing Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain in this summer’s transfer window, according to The Sun.

The Premier League runners-up are said to be eyeing a replacement for Edin Dzeko as he is linked with an exit from the club, with ESPN reporting in the last few days that AS Roma were preparing a bid for the Bosnian international, who struggled for appearances and goals at the Etihad Stadium last season.

The Sun adds that Stevan Jovetic could also be heading for the exit door in the coming week, with the Montenegro forward flopping badly since his move to City two summers ago and now looking in line for a return to Serie A with Inter Milan.

Higuain could be a fine replacement for these players, with the prolific Argentine international showing his class once again last season as he netted 29 goals in all competitions, though his form could not help fire his club to a Champions League spot.

City will therefore appeal as an option for the former Real Madrid man, who has also been linked with a move to Arsenal in a recent report from the Daily Express, though nothing has materialised in that particular saga.

The Sun claims £45m could be enough to persuade the Serie A side to let their star player go, and that looks a decent fee for a proven finisher who has done it in big games throughout his career.

City have been somewhat over-reliant on Sergio Aguero for goals in recent times and could do with another option to take the burden off the injury-prone forward, who only started 23 games in the Premier League in 2013/14, whilst also missing five last term.
