Atletico Madrid have confirmed the signing of Chelsea left-back Filipe Luis, who returns to the club only a year after leaving.

The defender moved to Stamford Bridge last summer, but struggled to impose himself in England and returns to the Spanish capital on a four-year contract for a fee of £11 million [Eurosport].

He was signed by the Pensioners for £15.8 million 12 months ago [BBC Sport], but despite winning the Liga BBVA title with Atletico Madrid and helping Diego Simeone’s side to the Champions League final, he was unable to establish himself in the Premier League.

The Brazil international failed to usurp Spanish full-back Cesar Azpilicueta, who was named as the “best left-back in the Premier League” by Mourinho in a recent press conference [Express].

The departing Filipe Luis managed only nine starts in the EPL and returns to a club where he will feel wanted, with Simeone having openly stated his desire to see the Selecao star return to the Vicente Calderon [Daily Star].
