Wayne Rooney: the damning statistic that PROVES Man Utd need to sign a new striker

Stats – figures show worst Rooney drought for 12 years.

Manchester United are days away from having Wayne Rooney as their only true option up front this season – a risk Louis van Gaal cannot afford to take.

The England captain is on a run of nine Premier League games without a goal, which is the second worst drought of his entire career. Rooney previously went ten games without scoring back in 2003, before he moved from Everton to Old Trafford.

Considering Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao have both left this summer without replacement, this is a sorry state of affairs for the Red Devils, who look to be really lacking goals after scoring just twice in their first three matches, one of those an own goal by Tottenham’s Kyle Walker.

Big names such as Pedro, Gareth Bale and many others have been linked throughout the summer, but have either gone elsewhere or stayed with their current clubs.

Given how recent signings of players like Angel Di Maria, Falcao and Victor Valdes have gone, this dithering in the transfer market should come as a real concern for United fans, who will hope their club can pull something out of the hat late on.
