Arsenal manager in Paris, with PSG willing to sell star forward

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is in Paris, with PSG willing to sell Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the North London club, reports the London Evening Standard.

The 65-year-old is interested in the Sweden international’s teammate Edinson Cavani, but the Ligue 1 champions have not given any indication that the former Napoli man is available for sale. He could now view the 33-year-old as a short term alternative, and the striker certainly has the pedigree to improve the Gunners in the final third.

In three years with PSG, the mercurial forward has scored 75 goals in 92 league matches, and also has an impressive goalscoring record in Italy during his long career. This could be vital for Arsenal, who have shown a lack of cutting edge in their first four games of the season.

This last-minute attempt at reinforcing his squad has come after Wenger failed to sign Real Madrid star Karim Benzema after months of links to the player [Daily Mail]. The Frenchman has also been rumoured to be pursuing a late move for Napoli ace Gonzalo Higuain [Kike Marin via Daily Express], perhaps showing that the manager doesn’t believe the addition of Petr Cech is enough to have the team challenging for the Premier League title.
