Manchester United line up £17.7m star in January after contract REJECTION

Manchester United are lining up a move for Napoli star Lucas Biglia, reports the Daily Express.

The 30-year-old has rejected a new five-year deal with the Serie A side, which could have earned him £1.8 million-a-season. He is apparently looking for £2.2 million-a-campaign with the Italian club. This has reignited the Red Devils’ chances of signing the midfielder, who had been linked to them earlier in the summer.

Back then, the Premier League outfit were put off by the 30-year-old’s £17.7 million asking price. With the Argentina international refusing to sign a new deal at the Stadio Olimpico, it could be that the fee is reduced as he is in the final year of his current contract.

However, United may no longer need Biglia. Manager Louis van Gaal has welcomed both  Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger to the club recently, and both play in the same position as the Argentine. With Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera also at Old Trafford and able to feature in the position, it may be profligate to bring in another central midfielder.
