These England stalwarts could be axed for Euros.

England manager Roy Hodgson has hinted he could have to snub Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck and Liverpool star Daniel Sturridge for the 2016 European Championships.

Both players have missed most of England’s recent games through injury, with Hodgson admitting he now has to plan around the pair and include other attackers.

With the likes of Theo Walcott and Harry Kane doing well in the win over San Marino, it looks like Welbeck and Sturridge could face increased competition to get into the Three Lions setup.

“They are always in my thoughts, because I think they’re very good players and they did extremely well when they were playing in the national team I was coaching,” Hodgson is quoted in the Daily Mirror.

“But I’ve got to make certain that there are a few Vardys and Kanes and Walcotts and that, because we can’t keep going around talking about the ones who aren’t there.”
