This makes little sense to me and I pray that it doesn’t come to fruition.

Seol Ki-Hyeon and Clint Dempsey are the only Cottagers to have scored away from home this season, and it’s perfectly possible that they’ll draw a blank at Goodison Park. Fulham have been distinctly second-rate away from home for some time now, with a dreadful record on their travels nearly costing them their Premier League status last term. After a summer of spending, it’s perfectly natural that the Black Cats would have to release the odd player or two. While Roy Keane has bemoaned the fact that a lot of his squad members would prefer to sit on the bench / play for the reserves than get first-team football elsewhere, it appears that this midfielder is not one of them. The Cottagers only stayed up by their skin of their teeth last season, and it’s likely to be a season of struggle for Roy Hodgson’s men again next term. They may have splashed the cash on Bobby Zamora recently, although it’s still hard to see them scoring bundles of goals, nor keeping too many clean sheets. [Read the rest of this entry »]

The Cottagers were a bit short on goals last season, so much so that they had to scramble for survival at the end of the season and were blinking lucky to stay in the Premier League. Roy Hodgson has clearly recognised this, although whether this latest signing will mean more goals is surely firmly open to question! [Read the rest of this entry »]

Kasey Keller was pretty rubbish for Fulham towards the end of the season, despite the Cottagers staying in the Premier League after a last-day victory at Portsmouth. It was clear that the American was only a temporary number one, and The Guardian report that Roy Hodgson has pounced for Mark Schwarzer to guard the Fulham goal next season.
The Aussie keeper has spent the bulk of his career at Middlesbrough, winning a Carling Cup winner’s medal with the club in 2004 and generally being pretty reliable as far as catching crosses and shot-stopping is concerned. However, despite the overtures from Germany and Italy, it’s clear that west London was the unanimous winner.
“I felt the time was right for me to move on, ” said the 35-year-old Australian international. “Although I had other offers from some great clubs throughout Europe, it didn’t take long to make a decision about joining Fulham. I don’t think anyone can say anything negative about my stay at Middlesbrough, I fulfilled every contract I had with them.”
He’ll feel at home in England’s capital, especially if he ventures into a nearby bar where some of the staff will almost certainly be of the Australian variety, something that can’t be said of Middlesbrough. I can recommend a very good pub to Mark, just on the other side of the river Thames to Craven Cottage, it sells a cracking pint of bitter and even has an outdoor seating area overlooking the river.

Despite an impressive 3-2 win at Manchester City, the bookmakers still expect Fulham to go ‘down with the Derby’ this season. However, the fact that they still have a chance of survival is pretty amazing when you consider that they were several points adrift of safety a couple of months ago.
A draw at Blackburn on 8th March seemed to provide the required confidence for the team to go on and record victories at home to Everton, away at Reading and now at Eastlands on Saturday. With Birmingham the visitors to Craven Cottage next weekend, retaining their Premier League status is a definite possibility, with the BBC reporting that manager Roy Hodgson now believes.
“It was a splendid victory for us, one we so badly needed.
“It looked bleak at half-time, and we had a mountain to climb – we didn’t deserve to be losing. But we did it.
“At 0-2 I honestly thought we weren’t out of it. I never lost hope, but to win it was extraordinary. We’ve given ourselves a chance now.”
It’s likely that they’ll need to beat the Blues to give themselves any chance of climbing out of the drop zone. They then face a tricky last game of the season at Portsmouth, although they’ll hope that Pompey have one eye on the FA Cup by this stage and perhaps lack motivation or even rest key players.
