Barcelona star and ex-Manchester United defender to break silence on national team booing

Spain defender Gerard Pique is set to attend a press conference on Thursday in which he is respond to being booed by La Roja fans.

The Barcelona stopper received a grilling from the supporters in Oviedo every time he touched the ball on Saturday, during Spain’s 2016 European Championships qualifier against Slovakia.

The defender was photographed coming out of a nightclub during the early hours on Sunday morning, an act for which he was criticised by the national media.

Goal understand that the poor reception for Pique is as a result of his anti-Madrid stance and his support of the pro-Catalan movement.

The former Manchester United man has received support from his national teammates, notably Cesc Fabregas, while Spain boss Vicente Del Bosque has also insisted that Pique receive the fans’ backing.
