Manchester United star has £25.5m release fee amid Real Madrid links

Manchester United star David De Gea has a release clause in his new contract of £25.5 million, reports the Daily Star.

The 24-year-old was heavily linked to Real Madrid over the summer, and this will raise fears that he could move there in either January or next summer. A move to the Bernabeu failed on deadline day as the necessary paperwork wasn’t handed in on time, but it is unlikely that that another error of this kind would be made if they made another effort to sign the Spain international.

The former Atletico Madrid man recently returned to United’s starting line up, with manager Louis van Gaal dropping new signing Sergio Romero to make room for him. The Argentine had looked shaky so far, and De Gea’s return will be a major boost to the side.

However, despite having the goalkeeper back, United still lost 2-1 to PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday evening, thanks to goals from Hector Moreno and Luciano Narsingh. This defeat has left the side in danger of finishing second in their Champions League group, and getting a tougher draw in the last 16.
