In the wake of the news that Barcelona megastar Lionel Messi has been listening to transfer talks from Premier League clubs, oddsmakers have already pounced on the news and put lines on which team will land one of the world’s greatest footballers.
According to the Metro, SkyBet has given Chelsea the best odds to land Messi before the end of the summer 2016 transfer window at 8/1 – well above the other Premier League giants Arsenal (12/1), Manchester City (14/1) and Manchester United (18/1). SkyBet also listed Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus as contenders for the Argentinian scoring machine.
Sky Bet’s Sandro Di Michele told Metro Sport that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich would be most likely to make the best offer for Messi, but would not discount Bayern Munich as a potential landing spot.
“The big spending English clubs are at the front of the market and should the opportunity to sign Messi arise we believe Roman Abramovich would jump at the chance, for that reason we make Chelsea 8/1 favourites,” Michele said.
“Having said that we’ve seen bits of money for Bayern Munich as punters obviously see a reunion with Pep as a distinct possibility.”
However, the best odds were placed on Lionel Messi deciding to stay put at Barcelona from now until the summer transfer window closes at 1/10.
Some concerns over Messi’s future in Spain have been raised over tax evasion charges levied against him and his father. Messi has been accused of defrauding taxmen of £3.1 million and faces a possible prison sentence if convicted.
