Monday’s biggest Manchester United news and transfer rumours.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is “sick” of talking about Wayne Rooney and the 30-year-old England forward’s struggle for form, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Once again the 30-year-old misfired as he led the Reds attack in the Manchester derby against City.

However, Wayne Rooney has described his Manchester United and England team-mate Chris Smalling as one of the best defenders in the world, the Metro reports.

Rooney said in Sunday’s United Review, the club’s matchday programme for the 0-0 derby draw with Manchester City: ‘[Smalling] has been incredible and for me he is right up there in world football in terms of centre-halves.

Gary Neville believes both Manchester United and Manchester City were deservedly clapped off at Old Trafford, despite playing out a dull goalless draw, the Daily Express reports.

United had the two best chances to win the match, substitute Jesse Lingard hit the crossbar before City keeper Joe Hart saved well from Chris Smalling.

Manchester United have made contact with Antoine Greizmann’s agent ahead of a transfer move, according to reports in the Metro.

The Red Devils are desperate to land the Atletico Madrid man, 24, and they have initiated contact with his associates.
