Mesut Ozil has revealed that the rest of the Arsenal squad have nicknamed midfield star Francis Coquelin ‘the pitbull’ thanks to his tenacious efforts since breaking into the first team, the Metro reports.

The 24-year-old’s Gunners career looked to be going nowhere when he joined Championship side Charlton on loan last year, but since his return he has transformed into one of the club’s most important players.

Adding a bite and a certain spark into the centre of the midfield, he has been praised as being the player that the club have been sorely lacking for a long time.

And Ozil, who himself in enjoying his best season in an Arsenal shirt so far, has revealed that he and his teammates call him the pitbull for the way he throws himself into tackles.

“We call him the pitbull because he’s very aggressive and always give 100%,” Ozil said.

Arsenal fans will certainly be hoping to see this dog-like tenacity on Sunday when The Gunners take on Tottenham in the North London Derby.
