The home side, with Lionel Messi back in action, took a 2-0 lead inside 18 minutes after goals from Messi and Suarez, and led 3-0 by half time after a superb volley from Luis Suarez.

Any hopes Roma had of finding a way back into the match were ended after half time when Gerard Pique scored after selfless work from Messi, before the Argentine superstar himself grabbed his second goal of the game.
