Euro giants eyeing Fernando Torres as potential replacement for Robin van Persie

According to reports in Turkey, Fenerbahce are considering a move for Fernando Torres as a potential replacement for Robin van Persie.

Turkish source Milliyet report that the Super Lig heavyweights are considering the 31-year-old AC Milan forward as a potential replacement for van Persie should the ex-Manchester United forward exit Fener.

The Dutchman—who represented both Arsenal and the Red Devils in the Premier League—was offloaded by Louis van Gaal during the summer as part of a squad overhaul, having been deemed surplus to requirements by Louis van Gaal.

The coach ultimately opted to sign both Memphis Depay and Anthony Martial, neither of whom have quite demonstrated that they can lead the line for would-be title contenders.

However, RVP is yet to have the expected impact in Turkey, prompting the suggestion that he may seek to move back to the Netherlands [Express].

Should he leave, Milliyet report that Fener are lining up Torres, who is currently back at his boyhood club Atletico Madrid on loan from Milan.

The international hitman won the World Cup with Spain in 2010, but his career has been on a downward spiral since leaving Liverpool for Chelsea in 2011.

The 31-year-old may take inspiration from another ex-Pensioners hitman—free-scoring Samuel Eto’o—who has shone since joining Super Lig side Antalyaspor earlier this year.

Torres’s contract at Milan ends in June 2016, with Milliyet reporting that Fener are considering waiting until the season’s end to see what becomes of van Persie, before turning to the Spaniard.
