Video: Messi scores a perfect free-kick to put Barcelona ahead

Posted by

Lionel Messi has put Barcelona 1-0 ahead against Deportivo La Coruna in this afternoon’s first La Liga match.

The Argentine, who had suffered a goal drought earlier in the season, has bounced back to his best in recent weeks, with today’s strike being his fifth in his last five games.

The goal came via a delightful free-kick, as the 28 year old bent a stunning effort into the top corner from more than 25 yards.

The half time whistle has just blown, and Barcelona still lead 1-0. If they can hold on to their advantage for the second 45 minutes, they will move five points clear of Atletico Madrid at the summit of the table, and seven points clear of Rafa Benitez’s Real Madrid.
