Two Manchester United players issue van Gaal ultimatum; pair considering January exits

Manchester United pair Ander Herrera and Juan Mata have issued an ultimatum to the club’s board, insisting that they will seek to leave the club in January if Louis van Gaal remains at the helm.

The Dutch coach is overseeing an increasingly troubled reign at Old Trafford, with the club having lost their last three matches—against Wolfsburg and newly promoted pair Norwich City and Bournemouth.

The Red Devils have not only been dumped out of the Champions League, but they have also slipped out of the top four in the Premier League and are in the midst of their worst run in all competitions since 1998.

The two Spaniards have been fairly peripheral figures in recent weeks and, as per the Times, neither international is prepared to stick around and fritter away his time on the United subs bench.

Both are understood to have confirmed that if van Gaal is still in charge come January, they will consider leaving the club, although if either player features in United’s game before the New Year, they may well be tempted to stick around and give their all for the Dutch coach.

Jose Mourinho, recently sacked by Chelsea, has been tipped to replace his erstwhile rival at Old Trafford [Telegraph], while Ryan Giggs—currently LVG’s assistant—has been touted as another possible option to supplant the coach.
