Liverpool open talks over signing exciting Mignolet replacement from European giants

Liverpool are said to be in discussions to sign goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen from Barcelona.

The Telegraph claim that the Reds, in action against West Ham United today, have held talks with the 23-year-old’s agent as he grows frustrated at playing second fiddle to Claudio Bravo at the Camp Nou.

Ter Stegen was pinpointed as a long-term replacement for Victor Valdes when he signed from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2014, but he has only made four La Liga starts because of the form of Bravo.

Klopp is a big fan of the German international from his time in the Bundesliga, according to The Telegraph, and has instructed Anfield bosses to explore Ter Stegen’s interest in a switch.

Simon Mignolet, despite keeping more clean sheets than any other Premier League stopper throughout 2016, has not always convinced as Liverpool’s number one and is in need of some genuine competition.

Considering his position at Barcelona, Ter Stegen would likely only join the Reds if he is given assurances of first-team football, so Liverpool’s advances on him spells bad news for Mignolet.
