Jorge Sampaoli closes in on Chelsea job as rumours he will quit Chile intensify

Explosive Chilean national team boss Jorge Samapoli may have taken a big step towards taking the Chelsea job at the end of the season as reports in South American publication Le Tercera claim that he will step down from his role on Wednesday afternoon.

It had been reported earlier this week that he would attempt to coax Alexis Sanchez to the club from Arsenal if he was to take over from Guus Hiddink over the summer.

Sampaoli only recently penned a new four-year deal to stay on as Chilean boss, but with Chilean FA president Sergio Jadue being indicted in the FIFA corruption scandal and extradited to the United States, things could change.

Not only is the Argentine-born tactician locked into an uncertain contract, his deal could even come under investigation for financial irregularities.

And he has hinted that he could be interested in making the move over to England, when quotes in Chilean publication Grafico attributed him as saying: “I have to admit it’s [the Premier League] the best league in the world.”
