Ex-Arsenal striker on the brink of €10m China exit after mentor departure

AS Roma are ready to cash in on Ivorian forward Gervinho following the exit of coach Rudi Garcia.

The former LOSC Lille manager enjoyed some heady days with the West African during their mutual time together at Ligue 1, and took the former Arsenal attacker with him when he joined Roma.

However, while the Giallorossi have enjoyed some marvellous days during Garcia’s tenure—with Gervinho starring as the capital club became viable title challengers to Juventus at the top of the table—Garcia left his post this week after losing his spark in Serie A.

He’s been replaced by Luciano Spalletti, who returns for a second spell at the club, and according to the Gazzetta dello Sport [via Football Italia], the new manager has no intentions of using Gervinho.

In fact, the recently installed coach is set to call time on the speedy attacker’s stay in Italy and offload him to China, with Jiangsu Suning FC understood to have made a €10 million offer to sign the speedster.

Jiangsu are clearly keen to do some big business in Italy during the January window, having already got a deal in place with AC Milan to sign Brazilian hitman Luiz Adriano and are keen on Inter Milan’s Fredy Guarin.
