Jose Mourinho’s agent slams ‘ridiculous and absurd’ speculation

Jorge Mendes has slammed reports suggesting that Jose Mourinho has written to Manchester United in a bid to become their next manager.

According to The Independent, Mourinho has sent a six-page letter to the Red Devils outlining why he would be the perfect man to step in and replace Louis van Gaal.

Naturally, the report spread immediately as the Dutch tactician came under further criticism following his side’s 1-0 home defeat to Southampton on Saturday.

While United have yet to comment on the story, Mendes was adamant that there was no truth behind it and slammed the publication for making up such lies.

“It does not occur to anyone that a coach like Jose Mourinho can write letters to clubs offering their services,” he wrote on www.gestifute.com.

“It is absolutely ridiculous and totally absurd.”

Mourinho has previously been linked with the Old Trafford post, as he continues to bide his time before making a return to management following his sacking at Chelsea last month.

Van Gaal had seemingly silenced his critics with an improved run of form to start 2016, but the defeat to the Saints has ensured that he has come under fire yet again after he was reportedly close to being sacked during an eight-game winless streak in December.

Nevertheless, United appear set to back their manager for the time being, but it remains to be seen how much more of their patience can be tested before they believe that they are forced into taking action.

United remain in fifth place in the Premier League table, but are now five points adrift of Tottenham who currently occupy the fourth and final Champions League qualification spot.
