Chelsea and Manchester City monitoring Barcelona ace’s contract woes

Both Chelsea and Manchester City are reportedly keeping tabs on Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets with the Spaniard demanding a new contract.

The Catalan giants have informed the Spanish international that they will not discuss a new deal before July 1, according to Marca, as they have insufficient funds to increase the wage bill for this season.

Although Busquets understands the financial situation that they are in, he reportedly wants to know exactly what will be offered in the coming years in order to continue his journey with the club.

However, while Barca continue to delay on their firm offer, the likes of Chelsea, PSG and Man City have all been alerted by the news and are keeping an eye on how things progress.

While both Chelsea and PSG will be able to offer significant packages in order to prise him away from the Spanish and European champions, a reunion with former coach Pep Guardiola at the Etihad next season could be more appealing.

Busquets played a crucial role for the Spanish tactician during his time at the Nou Camp, and with plans in place to bolster the City squad this summer in order to ensure that they dominate both at home and abroad, Guardiola could well target some of his former players.

Nevertheless, Busquets is seemingly keen on a contract extension with Barca and will wait to hear their offer first before considering an exit as a genuine possibility. However, the club will be well advised to ensure that talks progress before the situation changes.
