Adam Johnson has been found guilty of committing a sex act with a teenager after being cleared of a second charge earlier in the day. The former Sunderland winger now faces a potential sentence of four to ten years in prison.
Bradford Crown Court Judge Jonathan Rose accepted a majority jury verdict of 10-2 on a charge of sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl. According to the Metro, Judge Rose told Johnson following the verdict that he could receive a sentence between four and 10 years. Judge Rose said a custodial sentence is ‘the almost inevitable outcome’ but granted Johnson bail, which will be held at a later date.
Earlier in the day Johnson was cleared of an oral sex charge.
Johnson had previously pleaded guilty during his trial to grooming a 15-year-old girl and one charge of sexual activity with a teenager, but vehemently denied the other charges.
The 28-year-old winger was sacked by Sunderland earlier this February after making 20 appearances and scoring two goals for The Black Cats.
UPDATE: Johnson is appealing the verdict.
