Louis van Gaal looks absolutely stunned.
Once thought to be on the chopping block, Man United manager Louis van Gaal pulled off some manner of sorcery to reignite the fire in his team and was rewarded for his hard work with a sensational late winner thanks to the sure-footed Juan Mata.
With time ticking off the clock at Old Trafford, Juan Mata – wearing the captain’s armband for his first time ever – earned a free kick that he executed with one of the most spectacular finishes in the league this season, crossing it beautifully and out of the reach of the Watford goalkeeper Gomes to grab a 1-0 lead and a subsequent win.
The win brought Man United level with Man City on points with 47 apiece, though the rival Citizens still lead them on the table due to goal differential. The fourth and final Champions League spot could very well be decided in the second leg of the Manchester derby later this season.
