Sooner or later Alexis Sanchez’s rare stretch of going scoreless at the Emirates was going to end, and it could not have happened at a more crucial point for Arsenal than right at the beginning of the game against the Watford team that humiliated them in London just a few weeks ago.
It only took Alexis five minutes after the starting whistle to race into the Watford backfield and receive a cross from Alex Iwobi. He quickly caught it with a header and dropped to the ground for a kick and a lead-grabbing score.
The goal for Sanchez was his first in a home BPL fixture since October 4, 2015, when he recorded a brace and earned Man of the Match honors in a win over Man United.
Interestingly, the following week he scored against vs Watford in an away match – a goal which would be his last Premier League goal until March 5, 2016 – when he scored against Tottenham Hotspur in a 2-2 draw.
Watford eliminated Arsenal from the FA Cup tournament this season, putting an end to their two-year reign as Cup champions.
