Pochettino explains what Tottenham’s players need to do to deserve statues

Tottenham Hotspur coach Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that each Spurs player deserves their own statue if his side can overhaul Leicester City and claim the Premier League title this season.

The Lilywhites were handed a boost to their championship hopes on Sunday when West Ham United let a one-goal lead slip against West Ham United, who tore into a 2-1 advantage before Leonardo Ulloa’s late penalty rescued a point for Claudio Ranieri’s unlikely leaders.

Spurs can close the gap to five points should they win away at ninth-placed Stoke City on Monday evening, a triumph which would also establish a whopping eight-point chasm between themselves and third-placed Manchester City, who are at Newcastle United on Tuesday evening.

Even though the Lilywhites could reduce Leicester’s advantage, Pochettino clearly isn’t convinced that Spurs could do it, going as far as to suggest that should his players achieve the unlikely feat, each player would deserve a statue!

“If we won the championship, I think that every player would deserve a statue,” the manager told the media, as per the Telegraph. “The challenge is big because it is a big gap.

“But to keep fighting in the way that we have fought and in the end win the title,” he continued, “all the people would recognise our value. And we would be happy, too.”
