Real Madrid’s title hopes boosted as first-teamers return to training; Ronaldo fitness update

Real Madrid‘s preparations for their final two matches of the Liga BBVA season have been boosted by the return of three key men to first team training.

As reported by Goal, Karim Benzema, Casemiro and Cristiano Ronaldo have all returned to training ahead of Sunday’s potentially decisive fixture against Valencia.

However, as noted by the website, Zinedine Zidane is still having to negotiate various fitness concerns, with the influential trio of Gareth Bale, Dani Carvajal and Keylor Navas all currently sidelined due to injuries of varying degrees of seriousness.

Defensive midfielder Casemiro will bring grit and tenacity to the heart of the midfield, while the return of Benzema and Ronaldo—23 and 16 league goals respectively this season—could just give Los Merengues the offensive edge they need to overhaul Barcelona at the top of the table.

The Portuguese attacker missed two weeks of action ahead of the Champions League semi-final second leg against Manchester City, and didn’t appear to be at his best during that contest.

Benzema, by contrast, hasn’t featured since the first leg against the Citizens, back on April 26.
