Chelsea lining up €30m bid for Serie A defender as Antonio Conte eyes reinforcements

Chelsea are reportedly set to offer €30m for Roma defender Antonio Rudiger in a bid to bolster their defensive options for next season.

The German international has recently turned his move to the Giallorossi into a permanent deal, but it has been claimed that the Serie A side will sell him on for a profit.

It comes at a time when both Miralem Pjanic and Radja Nainggolan are being linked with exits from the club in order to ease Roma’s financial troubles.

However, according to Il Tempo, as noted by Football Italia, they may choose to sell Rudiger which in turn could help them keep hold of both of their midfielders to build on their success this season.

Chelsea have previously been linked with Rudiger and a whole host of other defenders this summer, with incoming boss Antonio Conte looking to strengthen his squad ahead of his first season in charge at Stamford Bridge.

While John Terry has already signed a contract extension, it’s evident that the Italian tactician wishes to add more options to his team and that could now involve a move for Rudiger.

The likes of Kostas Manolas and Kalidou Koulibaly are just two other names to be linked with a move to west London, while Nainggolan and Pjanic have also been touted as possible transfer targets for the Premier League outfit.

Roma will be desperate to keep hold of all their star names, but out of those concerned, perhaps selling Rudiger to balance the books arguably makes the most sense such is the influence and importance of the other three individuals being discussed.
