Liverpool injury news: Jurgen Klopp provides Philippe Coutinho update as he continues to recover from damaged ankle ligaments

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has provided an injury update on talisman Philippe Coutinho, as he continues to recover from an ankle injury.

Coutinho was stretchered off during his side’s victory over Sunderland at the end of November. The Mirror reported that the Brazilian would miss up to six weeks of action after damaging his ankle ligaments.

It was a considerable blow to Liverpool’s title hopes, as Coutinho had been enjoying the best season of his Anfield career so far. The 24-year-old had scored five goals and provided five assists in the Premier League prior to his injury, directly contributing to a goal every 96 minutes. For comparison, he contributed to a goal every 154 minutes in England’s top divison last term.

During his press conference today, Klopp was asked whether Coutinho was going to be available for Liverpool’s upcoming fixtures over the festive period. Unfortunately for the Reds faithful, the BBC report it isn’t good news: “He’s not in training. He can’t rush. It was a serious injury.”

We keep our fingers crossed that Coutinho is back to full fitness soon, as he is a joy to watch when on song.
