Manchester United’s most influential figure offered new £12m five-year deal

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly set to be offered a lucrative new contract by the club as they continue their resurgence.

After an indifferent few months to start the season, United have gone from strength to strength and are now looking at what would be a successful first year under the Portuguese tactician.

While they firmly remain in the hunt for a top four finish as they now sit just two points adrift, they have a chance to win silverware this month with the EFL Cup, while they are also still involved in both the FA Cup and Europa League.

Having put together a strong run, they are on the march and according to The Sun, Mourinho will be offered a new deal this summer in order to continue to mastermind their charge for the top.

It’s claimed that he’s already on a contract worth £10m over three years, with an option for a further 12 months, but he will be offered fresh terms which will include a £2m increase and an extension through to 2022, as per the report.

That’s not all either. It’s claimed that Mourinho will be given up to £200m in transfer funds this summer to continue to build a star-studded squad capable of competing for silverware on a regular basis having spent £150m last summer on the likes of Paul Pogba and Eric Bailly.

The report notes that the £100m signing of Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann remains the priority, as the Red Devils will spend big again this summer to continue their bid to restore themselves back at the top of English and European football.

United have lost just one of their last 23 games in all competitions, and while there is still a long way to go this season to ensure that it’s a successful campaign, it would appear as though the club hierarchy are convinced by Mourinho and are ready to back him all the way to get the job done.
