Chelsea transfer news: Antonio Conte keen to draft in defensive reinforcements and may look to Blues academy product

Antonio Conte wants to add two defenders into his squad in the summer transfer window, according to the Express.

Chelsea’s defence have been in fine form this campaign, and their good work has been a major contributor towards the Blues opening up a ten-point lead at the Premier League summit.

After a 3-0 demolition at the Emirates, Conte decided to switch to a three-at-the-back system, and it has worked wonders. Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz and Gary Cahill have formed a near-telepathic threesome, and Chelsea’s record of 20 goals conceded can only be matched by Tottenham.

You would think this is one area of the field Chelsea definitely don’t need to improve on, but Conte appears to believe otherwise. According to the Express, the former Juventus boss is keen to draft in two more defenders in the summer.

One of those, the Express report, is academy product Andreas Christensen. The Dane has been in fine form on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach and could subsequently be rewarded with a spot in Conte’s squad next term.
