Barcelona duo Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez are reportedly keen for their club to seal the transfer of Bayern Munich left-back David Alaba in the summer.
The Austria international has been linked with the Catalan giants in the past, and Don Balon claim Messi and Suarez are fans of the player and think he’d be a more worthwhile purchase than Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann.
The French attacker has repeatedly come up in various outlets as being a target for Barcelona in the summer, but Don Balon recently claimed Messi and Andres Iniesta were not keen on the move.
In fairness, a new left-back may be more of a pressing need for the club due to their considerable strength up front, with Philippe Coutinho joining from Liverpool this January to boost a side already containing big names like Messi, Suarez and Ousmane Dembele.
It’s not obvious how Griezmann would fit into that, so Alaba could be a better use of considerable transfer funds.
Don Balon have previously linked the 25-year-old with Barca, stating he’d likely have an asking price of around £88million at Bayern.
The Bavarian giants won’t want to lose such an important player on the cheap, with Alaba playing a key role in their side for the best part of seven seasons now.
